The two main parts are the condenser and the evaporator. In an air conditioner, heat is moved from inside the building to outside through a refrigerant loop. The evaporator is located indoors and cools the air by absorbing heat from it as the refrigerant evaporates inside the coil. The condenser is outdoors and releases that absorbed heat to the outside air as the refrigerant condenses back into a liquid. The compressor plays a crucial role by circulating and pressurizing the refrigerant, but the two primary heat-exchanging components that define the cycle are the evaporator and the condenser. The filter, while important for air quality, is not part of the refrigerant cycle.
